PETALING JAYA: There was a sole Malaysian representative listed on the website of Cambridge International University where Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Marzuki Yahya obtained his degree – but he too, was uncontactable.

One Ravi Prabakaran is listed as one of the university’s “official partners” but just like the university’s faculty members, there was no way to reach him or independently verify his existence.

Earlier, attempts by The Star to e-mail multiple faculty and adjunct faculty members for clarification failed when the mail delivery subsystem noted that the e-mail addresses could not be found or the server was unable to receive mail.

Ravi was listed as a CEO and director of a company called Profile Consultants Resources in Kuantan.

The description on the firm’s Hotfrog listing, a free online business directory, reads: “Profile Consultants Resources is a firm that helps in profiling individuals to achieve rewarding career and assist business owners to improve their marketing.

“We can help those who want to convert their skills into academic qualification.

“We can help those with vast working experiences but no academic qualification.”

The Star called the Malaysian mobile number listed on the Hotfrog listing but it was unavailable.

The link to the website was also not working.

The same firm is also the “international office” of the University of New Imperia, another unaccredited US-based institution in the state of Delaware.

On its website, it said that until 2013, the University of New Imperia had not yet been accredited by any agencies recognised by the US Secretary of Education.

Marzuki, who previously said he had a degree from the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom via a distance-learning programme, admitted on Wednesday (Feb 6) that his degree was actually from Cambridge International University in the United States.

Since that admission, the institution has come under intense scrutiny and increasing suspicion that it is a “diploma mill” that awards degrees with little or no study.

Cambridge International University states on its website that it is not accredited.
