KOTA TINGGI: Police have found the body of a male foreigner floating in the coastal waters off Tanjung Balau near Desaru in Johor.
Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Ashmon Bajah said police were notified about the body at 5.15pm on Wednesday (Feb 6).
“Initial investigations found that the deceased was dressed neatly in a blue, long-sleeved shirt and dark slack pants with a belt and stockings.
“The post-mortem revealed that the cause of death is strangulation,” he said in a statement here on Thursday (Feb 7).
He added that the victim has not been identified because no identification documents had been found on the body or at the scene. He is believed to have been in his 40s.
Supt Ashmon also said police checked registration lists of nearby chalets and did not find any foreign male tenants.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
In an unrelated case, police are trying to locate the next of kin of a man, believed to be a foreigner also, who was killed after being run over by a train on Sept 24 last year.
Kulai OCPD Supt Tok Beng Yeow said that the incident occurred at 1.15am when a train from Gemas heading to Johor Baru hit the victim at KM724-KM725 near the Kulai town area.
“The victim was found alive and had been rushed to Kulai Hospital for treatment, during which he spoke in a foreign language. He died about four hours later.
The body has a flower tattoo on its right shoulder, Supt Tok said, adding that the police have failed so far to identify the body.
