Johor Sultan visits home of Bukit Batu rep on Chinese New Year

JOHOR BARU: Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar graced the Chinese New Year celebration at state International Trade, Investment and Utilities committee chairman Jimmy Puah Wee Tse’s house here in Senibong Cove on Tuesday (Feb 5).

Sultan Ibrahim and Permaisuri Johor Raja Zarith Sofiah Almarhum Sultan Idris Shah arrived at about 9am with State Secretary Datuk Azmi Rohani.

Their Majesties were greeted by the Bukit Batu assemblyman and his wife Ophelia Cheng as well as Johor Women Development and Tourism Committee chairman Liow Cai Tung.

They then witnessed a lion dance by Nam Hua Lion Kangkar Pulai dance troupe before tossing yee sang to mark the start of Chinese New Year celebrations here in Johor.

Puah said it was a great honour to have Sultan Ibrahim and Raja Zarith as guests at his Chinese New Year open house and that the Sultan’s presence made it even more meaningful.

“This is a special visit that my family and I will always remember.

“This also shows that the Sultan Ibrahim is someone who puts the rakyat forward as he is willing to spend Chinese New Year in my home," he said.  

He added that Sultan Ibrahim expressed his hopes and dreams for Johor during the private meal he had with family and other guests-of-honour.

“He spoke of the development he wants to see in Johor and the role of tourism as well as investments in putting the dream forward.

“His Majesty also spoke of the importance of preserving traditions such as visiting and spending time with family during Chinese New Year,” he said.
