PETALING JAYA: Lim Kit Siang has disputed a survey claiming that nearly 60% of Malays are not happy with the performance of the Pakatan Harapan government.
He said the survey did not reflect the real situation.
"Ilham Centre/Penang Institute survey cannot be a correct reflection of the situation in the country as not even 1% of non-Muslims in any survey will believe that non-Muslims are now in control of the government and that DAP is calling the shots in Putrajaya," the DAP adviser said in a statement on Saturday (Feb 2).
Lim's statement was in response to a report on a joint survey conducted by independent research firm Ilham Centre and Penang Institute, a think tank funded by the Penang government.
They found that 60% of the respondents believed that non-Muslims were now in control of the government and that the DAP was calling the shots.
The survey interviewed 2,614 Malay respondents between Oct 24 and Dec 24 last year.
Lim said if the survey was a correct reflection of the situation in the country, then if a similar survey had been conducted among non-Muslims, it would find that a substantial number of non-Muslims would be very supportive of the government on the grounds that non-Muslims were, supposedly, now in control.
However, the Iskandar Puteri MP said this was definitely not the case.
He said if a such survey was conducted, not even 1% of non-Muslims who would feel happy with the Pakatan Harapan government.
"In fact, any poll would show that there was an increase in dissatisfaction with DAP and the Pakatan Harapan as the DAP and the Pakatan Harapan have disappointed the expectations of non-Muslims in the country in the first nine months as government," he said.
Lim added that it was crucial that Pakatan addressed the grievances and unhappiness of all Malaysians, be it the Malays, Chinese, Indians, Kadazans, Ibans, orang asli, Muslims and non-Muslims.
