YONG PENG: MCA President Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong says the closure of haemodialysis centres will affect almost 800 patients nationwide.

Dr Wee has also urged the Health Ministry to step in to help Mawar Haemodialysis Centre (MHC) with its financial issues.

"The Ministry should think twice, and if this centre needs any cooperation from the ministry, they should step in to give priority to the patients.

"If the centre has to be shut down, the government should find a way to arrange for something for the patients as they too have the right to survive," he said when met after handing out donations to some 28 dialysis patients here in Yong Peng on Saturday (Jan 2).

It was earlier reported that Mawar Haemodialysis Centre (MHC), which ranks among the country’s largest non-profit private dialysis centres, will be forced to stop treating its patients soon, as it does not have the funds to operate.

The MHC management said it would be forced to take the drastic measure to close its 13 centres, as the Health Ministry has yet to approve an application for a new licence to operate its private wing, the Mawar Medical Centre (MMC).
