KEMAMAN: The Terengganu government has proposed the setting up a special committee made up of representatives from the states to come up with solutions to the East Coast Rail Link project.

Mentri Besar Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said the move would also help eliminate conflicting information at the federal level.

He said it was important to hold discussions with representatives from Terengganu, Kelantan and Pahang as they were the project’s stakeholders.

“We understand the constraint faced by the federal government but we must also take into account the status of existing infrastructure, including some of the completed rail tracks.

“There are also sites which have been cleared to make way for the construction of stations and administrative centres,” he said after launching the state-level Quran Recital event on Tuesday night.

Dr Ahmad Samsuri said they welcomed all forms of discussion with the federal government, especially when it involved the interests of the state and the people. — Bernama
