KAJANG: A suspected car thief led police on a high-speed chase here before the vehicle he was driving turned turtle.

The suspect, driving a stolen sedan, even hit a police motorcycle patrol unit personnel during the pursuit in his bid to escape.

Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof said police were alerted about the case at around 7.15am on Thursday (Jan 31).

"Our personnel spotted the stolen vehicle near Taman Bukit Angsana and attempted to stop it, but the driver sped off.

"Our men gave chase, and he rammed one of the policeman who was riding a motorcycle. The policeman suffered injuries to his left shoulder," he said when contacted.

He said the suspect then hit several vehicles before the sedan overturned at the Taman Bukit Angsana Flats.

"Our men were forced to open fire at the suspect in self-defence.

"We managed to take the suspect into police custody, and investigations revealed the suspect was wanted in connection with drug related offences," he said, adding that the suspect had a prior record.

He said police were investigating the suspect’s connection to vehicle theft and house break-ins.

"We also are investigating this case as attempted murder, as he rammed into a policeman," he said, adding that the sedan was reported stolen from Pandan Indah.

ACP Ahmad Dzaffir urged anyone with information on the case to contact Insp Zazali Kenek at 019-7100662 or the Kajang police headquarters at 03-8911 4222.
