PUCHONG: Police together with the Road Transport Department and Community Policing Malaysia took time to distribute oranges and pamphlets to motorists in conjunction with Chinese New Year on Thursday (Jan 31).

Bukit Aman Inspector-General of Police (IGP) (Secretariat) Corporate Communications head SAC Datuk Asmawati Ahmad said the event was meant as a way to show their concern for motorists during Chinese New Year.

"We will continue these engagements with the public. We understand there will be a large number of cars on the road as people make their way back to their hometowns.

"We just want to remind them to drive safely and responsibly," she said when met at the Puchong Selatan toll plaza on Thursday.

She said the police together with JPJ, Litrak and Community Policing Malaysia founder Kuan Chee Heng distributed more than 300 goodie bags.

"The bags contain water, oranges and pamphlets on road safety and crime prevention.

"It's just our way of reminding the public to stay safe on the road and at home," she said.

Meanwhile, JPJ public relations officer Muhammad Fahmi Mohamad Daud said his department wished everyone happy holidays and a Happy Chinese New Year to those celebrating.

"Our hope is that everyone gets to go back to their hometowns safely. Think of your loved ones and drive carefully," he said.
