IPOH (Bernama): A total of 207 food products worth RM4,678.79 were impounded by the Perak Health Department in a food safety operation in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebrations.
State Health Director Datuk Dr Ding Lay Ming said that during the operation carried out from Jan 18 to 30, 81 products were found to have exceeded the expiry date while 126 food packages were damaged, dented and the address of the food importer was not stated on the label.
“Premises owners were also given notices under Section 32B for violating Rule 14(9)(b) of the Food Regulations 1985 for selling expired food and fined RM3,000,” she said.
She disclosed this to reporters after launching Ops Zhu at a supermarket here at the state level, which was implemented simultaneously beginning Thursday (Jan 31).
Dr Ding said the operation was to ensure that the food was clean, safe and protected from contamination.
She called on members of the public wishing to lodge complaints to contact the State Health Department concerned. - Bernama
