SIBU: Police are on the hunt for eight people, believed mostly to be Indonesians, for armed robbery of a family at their sundry shop in Sungai Bidut near her on Tuesday (Jan 29).
Sibu OCPD asst comm Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said on Wednesday (Jan 30) that at about 7.50pm on Tuesday, one of the suspects showed up at the shop with two accomplices armed with a knife and a parang following behind him.
"The trio asked the female operator of the shop, who was at the counter, to be silent when another five people came in, four with a knife each while another had a fake pistol," he added.
They then tied up the 45-year-old woman and her four children aged from two to eight years old with an electric cable.
However, the woman managed to untie herself and escaped through the back door.
"In her haste to flee, the woman made some noise, which spooked the robbers, who fled in a white van and a saloon car with RM4,000 in cash and a CCTV decoder," he said.
After receiving a distress call from the woman, a police team rushed to the scene at 10.18pm.
"Based on descriptions given by the woman, seven of the robbers are believed to be Indonesians, while the other is believed to be a local," he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 395 and 397 of the Penal Code for armed robbery.
