JOHOR BARU: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) rescued four fishermen when their boats capsized near Stulang Laut here on Wednesday (Jan 30).
Johor MMEA director First Admiral (Maritime) Aminuddin Abdul Rashid said in a statement that the Johor Baru marine rescue sub centre (MRSC) received a distress call regarding two capsized fishing boats at about 11am on Wednesday.
"The boats capsized when the fishermen were trying to pull in their trawl nets, which were loaded with fish.
"The load was too heavy for the boats," he said, adding that it was also high tide at the time.
He added that the fishermen, aged between 33 and 50, were rescued and did not sustain any injuries and had since been allowed home.
Aminuddin urged all fishermen to always be wary of their safety while at sea and to take precautionary steps to avoid untoward incidents.
"We always remind fishermen to prioritise the usage of life jackets to avoid any unwanted mishaps," he said.
