Two NRD staff members die in Sepang blaze

SEPANG: A married couple, who were staff members of the National Registration Department (NRD), died in a blaze at Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi here. 
 
The deceased have been identified as 35-year-old Wan Mohd Baharul Nizam Wan Bakar and 28-year-old Norwahidah Abdul Hamid.

District OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Aziz Ali said that a call regarding the incident was made around 2pm on Monday (Jan 28).

“The Fire and Rescue Department was forced to break into the home and fire-fighters found one man trapped in the main bedroom toilet and a woman on the bed with burn marks on her face and waist.

“The blaze was successfully extinguished at around 2.40pm and preliminary investigations showed that the fire was only in the bedroom,” he said in a statement issued Monday (Jan 28).

It is learnt that Wan Mohd succumbed to his injuries after being rescued.

A post-mortem will be conducted.
