CAMERON HIGHLANDS: Tanah Rata assemblyman Chiong Yoke Kong is blaming the wrong party whom he claimed was responsible for revoking the booking of a multipurpose hall for a DAP fundraising dinner, says the Tringkap New Village’s village security and development committee (JKKK).
In a statement, the committee added that the hall was meant for the public for activities and banquets, where a rental fee is needed to be paid.
Chiong, it said, also did not clear up the matter with the present committee.
It added that it was normal for the JKKK to discuss details with organisers who want to hold functions at the hall.
It said Chiong’s press conference at the same hall was held without the JKKK’s knowledge, and it was disrespectful towards the committee members.
It was reported on Saturday that Chiong had alleged the Pahang government pressured the JKKK into revoking a booking made by DAP’s by-election campaign team.
He added that Pakatan had booked the hall a week earlier. But he said he was informed on Thursday that the hall could not be rented.
“Their reason being that the hall could not be used for political purposes.
“I feel this is unreasonable because we have had many events here before, even as the opposition,” he was quoted as saying during the press conference at the hall.
He said the dinner was meant to raise funds for the by-election campaign.
The JKKK said that while Chiong claimed political sabotage, Pakatan’s candidate M. Manogaran said that the fund-raising dinner had clashed with another event.
The event was eventually moved at the last minute to the Kampung Raja multipurpose hall.
