No more uniforms and shoes, only vouchers from next year, says Khalid after size snafu

PETALING JAYA: From next year, recipients of the Yayasan Wilayah Persekutuan (YWP) school aid will all receive coupons instead of school apparel.

This comes after complaints of recipients receiving school uniforms and shoes in the wrong sizes.

Federal Territories Minister Khalid Samad said a full investigation will be launched to look into the blunder.

“Starting next year, all recipients will receive coupons. There will be no more shoes and school uniforms,” he said.

This follows reports of several recipients in Kepong receiving oversized school pants, and black shoes made to fit babies.

Khalid, who is also YWP chairman, said he would tackle such problems directly and make no attempt to cover up such mistakes.

“Whoever is found guilty will face the consequences and any hidden agenda will be exposed,” he said in a statement Monday.

This year, Khalid said 20,000 students in the Federal Territories, including Putrajaya and Labuan, received the YWP school aid.

About 3,250 students were given schoolbags and vouchers worth RM100 while the rest received schoolbags and uniforms.
