CAMERON HIGHLANDS: The police have so far received 17 reports on various issues related to the Cameron Highlands by-election here.
Cameron Highlands OCPD Deputy Superintendent Ashari Abu Samah, however, said only one investigation paper has been opened under Section 5(6)(b) of the Election Offences Act over a photograph of a ballot paper which went viral on social media.
"Other issues included the money handout incident, tents that were damaged and the latest incidents in Sungai Koyan yesterday (Sunday)," he told a press conference on Monday.
It was reported that Barisan Nasional's Cameron Highlands candidate Ramli Mohd Nor lodged a police report alleging that Raub MP Tengku Zulpuri Shah Raja Puji tried to grab a smartphone from his assistant and also uttered vulgarities at the passengers of a car Ramli was travelling in at Sungai Koyan.
According to the police report, the incident occurred at about 6pm on Sunday (Jan 20) near Pos Lenjang and Pos Titom in Kuala Lipis.
DSP Ashari said the matter was still being investigated.
He said that police had also received one report on an incident involving the alleged misuse of a government vehicle.
"It is also being investigated and we have not decided how to classify it.
"We are waiting for the complainant from Barisan to record his statement," he said.
On early voting taking place on Tuesday (Jan 21), DSP Ashari said some 247 registered voters will cast their ballots at two locations – Brinchang police station for Tanah Rata and Sungai Koyan for Jelai.
He added that the voting at Tanah Rata will be from 8am to 5.30pm and Jelai from 8am to 2pm.
