PETALING JAYA: The Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (Bersih 2.0) wants the eyewitness who took the picture of the state-owned four-wheel drive vehicle allegedly used by Pakatan Harapan during campaigning in Cameron Highlands to report the matter to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

“Bersih would urge the eyewitness of the incident, that is, the person who took the viral photo to come forward and make a report to the MACC and have his or her statement taken,” its chairman Thomas Fann said.

“Bersih, not being a firsthand eyewitness, would not be making the report as our statement would just be considered hearsay,” he said.

Fann said from the viral photograph of the vehicle draped with a Pakatan flag and the initial of the Pahang Forestry Department, it appears that Pakatan may have abused government assets during campaigning for the Cameron Highlands polls.

“Bersih calls on the MACC to investigate this incident under Section 23(1) of the MACC Act if an officer of a public body has used his or her office, or position, for any gratification,” he said.

“The Pakatan government should also take stern action against the public officer like suspending or even terminating the person if found guilty of the offence,” he added.

It was reported that the Pahang government has confirmed that the four-wheel drive vehicle belongs to the state Forestry Department.

Pahang state secretary Datuk Seri Dr Sallehuddin Ishak explained that the vehicle was lent to a ministry for the official use of a deputy minister.

"However, when a party symbol was displayed, I ordered for the vehicle to be taken back immediately," he said in a statement posted on his Facebook page.

Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak also shared the photo of the four-wheel drive vehicle, mocking Pakatan over the alleged use of a government vehicle on the campaign trail.
