CAMERON HIGHLANDS: A total of 247 early voters will cast their ballots on Tuesday (Jan 22) for the Cameron Highlands by-election, says Election Commission (EC) chairman Azhar Azizan Harun (pic).

All 247 voters are police personnel, who will be voting at the Brinchang and Sungai Koyan police stations' information rooms.

While the Brinchang station's voting centre will be open from 8am to 5pm, the Sungai Koyan voting station will only open from 8am to 2pm.

Azhar said in a statement that the early voting process would be witnessed by the candidates' agents, together with election observers from appointed organisations and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

The early voting ballot boxes will not be stored at the voting centres on Jan 22, but will be stored in the stations' lock-ups, before being taken to vote-counting centres specified by the EC on Jan 26, with police escort and witnesses.

As part of the postal voting process, the EC chairman stated that the by-election's managing officers had issued 122 postal votes on Jan 13 for election workers (109 slips), Overseas/Absent Voters (12 slips) and one postal voting slip for Malaysian citizens who are overseas (Form 1B).
