PETALING JAYA: It is the responsibility of the federal government to ensure development is carried out in every state, including in opposition areas, says MCA vice-president Datuk Seri Ti Lian Ker.

“In the interests of the people, it is the responsibility of the federal government to ensure development is carried out in every state, including in opposition areas.

"The act of neglecting opposition-held areas, or denying development funds, is hypocritical, irresponsible and against the flow of the ‘New Malaysia’," he said in a statement on Saturday (Jan 19).

His statement came after Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng reportedly said more development will be brought to Cameron Highlands if Pakatan Harapan wins the parliamentary seat in the coming Jan 26 polls.

The Coalition for Free and Fair Elections (Bersih 2.0) has also urged Lim to clarify his remarks.

Lim, however, has denied allegations that he told constituents in Cameron Highlands to vote for Pakatan Harapan if they wanted to see development, saying his remarks were taken out of context.

Ti, who is also a senator, also noted that Pakatan Harapan Cabinet ministers flocked to Cameron Highlands with promises of various assistance for the local populace and projects just two weeks prior to nomination day.

“The Pakatan government has not even fulfilled all its GE14 pledges. Is it now showering empty promises on Cameron Highlands?” he asked.

“Will the Pakatan government once again descend to making as many U-turns as they did with the Pakatan Manifesto promises?

"Will Guan Eng blame Cameron Highlands and the previous Barisan government when he is criticised for cancelling projects that were promised to the rakyat?” he asked.

Ti said Pakatan and, in particular, DAP must put an end to the misery of the rakyat by ceasing all its reprisals.

“Start administering the nation well and discard the Opposition 'mindset'. MCA reminds the PH government to carry out its responsibility by focusing on developing the nation to benefit the rakyat irrespective of race, religion or political affiliation,” he added.
