CHERAS: Car thieves sped off with a used vehicle after duping a manager into thinking they were prospective buyers.

Cheras OCPD Asst Comm Mohamed Mokhsein Mohamed said the incident occurred on Friday (Jan 18) afternoon at a used car dealership in Desa Tun Razak.

"After negotiating with the seller, the suspects, an unidentified man and woman, asked for a test drive.

"The seller started the engine and went back into the shop to take a temporary number plate for the car. However, the suspects drove the car off without waiting," he said in a statement released Saturday (Jan 19).

Preliminary investigations showed that CCTV footage of the suspects' faces was not clear enough and the seller had not written down any identifying traits.

Investigations are still ongoing.
