GEORGE TOWN: Many devotees still love breaking coconuts during the chariot procession for Thaipusam, even if they don’t know the true meaning behind the ritual, says Consumers Association of Penang education officer N.V. Subbarow.

He said devotees, particularly from the Chinese community, are not fully aware of the reasons behind the ceremony, thinking that the more coconuts they broke, the more luck they would receive.
