CAMERON HIGHLANDS: Pakatan Harapan has slammed the Pahang Barisan Nasional government for interfering with its plan to hold a fundraising dinner at the Tringkap Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) multipurpose hall here.
Tanah Rata assemblyman Chiong Yoke Kong claims the state government had pressured the JKKK committee into revoking its booking for the premises for a dinner event meant for Saturday (Jan 19).
"We booked the hall a week ago.
"I was informed last night that the hall cannot be rented to us," Chiong told a press conference at the premises on Friday (Jan 18).
"The reason given was that the hall cannot be used for political purposes.
"I feel this is unreasonable because we have had many events here previously, even as the opposition," he added.
Chiong said the dinner was meant to raise funds for the election campaign.
He said DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and DAP vice-chairman M. Kulasegaran were expected to attend, along with Pakatan's by-election candidate M. Manogaran.
"We have sold 55 tables and are still selling the tickets.
"I just hope the state will remain professional during this campaign and allow us to use the hall," he said.
