KOTA KINABALU: Various roads leading to shops, housing areas and oil palm estates in Sandakan were flooded following a continuous downpour.
The flash floods in Kampung Garinono and the areas surrounding it led to a traffic standstill yesterday after many roads were left impassable.
However, some heavy vehicles such as fuel tankers could still pass through.
Personnel from the Civil Defence Department and the Fire and Rescue Department have been deployed to monitor the flood situation closely.
So far, there have been no reports of casualties in the area.
However, some affected residents whose houses were hit by the floods were told to be on standby.
Villager James Leong said flash floods were a normal occurrence during heavy and continuous rainfall.
The floodwaters started to recede later in the day.
