ALOR SETAR: A jobless man has been charged with killing two siblings while they were asleep in Kampung Tengah, Kuala Sungai Yan, near here.
The accused, Amir Ariffin, was brought before magistrate Nurul Rasyidah Mohd Alit at 9.42am yesterday.
The 49-year-old drug addict faces two murder charges under Section 302 of the Penal Code and another charge under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievious hurt to a villager with a sword.
He was charged with killing Nurul Hanim Idris, five, between 11pm and midnight at a house in No. 11, Kampung Tengah, Jalan Kuala Sungai in Yan on Jan 8.
Amir was also charged with murdering Muhammad Hafis Idris, two, with a sword, at the same time and place.
Both offences carry the mandatory death sentence on conviction.
For the third charge, he was said to have voluntarily caused grievious hurt to Soberi Saad, 52, at the same time and place.
The offence carries a jail term of up to 20 years, a fine or whipping.
The accused nodded when the charges were read to him by a court interpreter.
No plea was recorded for the two murder charges. Amir, however, claimed trial to the third charge.
Nurul Rasyidah did not allow bail and fixed March 18 for mention.
Deputy public prosecutor Nurul Waheda Abd Rahman prosecuted while the accused was not represented.
According to earlier reports, a man ran amok and killed his neighbour’s two young children after a quarrel with their father.
