KOTA KINABALU: Five people were injured after a public bus they were on skidded and landed on its side along Jalan Cecily in Sandakan at about 9.50am on Tuesday (Jan 15).
The bus was heading from the Taman Mawar housing area towards the town centre when the accident occurred.
"The bus was travelling down a hill when the driver lost control near a corner and skidded off the road," said Sandakan assistant police chief Supt Abdul Fuad Abdul Malek.
He said bus was carrying 10 passengers at the time.
"Four sustained minor injuries but another victim, identified as Saddam Taulimin, was seriously hurt," he said, adding the injured were being treated at the Duchess of Kent Hospital in Sandakan.
He said the driver and the other five passengers escaped unscathed.
Supt Fuad said the police were taking statements from the 48-year-old driver and the case is being investigated under the Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless and inconsiderate driving.
