PETALING JAYA: DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang has provided a detailed explanation about the woman in a Pakatan Harapan T-shirt distributing cash in Cameron Highlands.
"The woman in the red T-shirt is known as Vanessa, a Dusun-Punjabi from Kota Kinabalu, who has been an Impian Malaysia volunteer since 2014.
"She was placed in charge of the Orang Asli motorcyclists, who came out from their various kampungs for the nomination in Tanah Rata on Saturday (Jan 12).
"There were 60 motorcyclists, and she reimbursed them RM20 each per motorcyclist," he said in a statement on Sunday (Jan 13).
He added that there were four busses and five cars involved, but they were not under Vanessa’s purview.
He then turned the tables on BN, asking if they were prepared to give a full public accounting on its mobilisation in Cameron Highlands.
"Is BN prepared to give a full public accounting of how many people it mobilised for the nomination yesterday, and the total expenditure involved, as well as to answer all queries on financial expenditures during the by-election?" he said.
Earlier, PH denied allegations of bribery, after photographs showing a woman clad in a Pakatan T-shirt purportedly handing out money became viral.
Arvind Bharet, the assistant head of Jelai Pakatan's operation centre, clarified that party workers were giving petrol reimbursements to its volunteers in the said photographs.
"I would like to stress that these are reimbursements for petrol given to Pakatan's volunteers, who came from the interior to Tanah Rata to show support during nomination day.
"This reimbursement will be delivered as part of our election expenses.
"All will be done according to the law," said Arvind.
