JOHOR BARU: Two man and a woman, aged between 19 and 22, were arrested after a failed attempt to rob a convenience store on Jalan Ibrahim Sultan in Stulang Laut here.
Johor Baru (South) District Police chief ACP Shahurinain Jais said the attempt was foiled by two other men who rushed into the store after witnessing the incident on Thursday (Jan 10) at about 3am.
"The first suspect, a man aged 19, went into the store and threatened a 29-year-old Bangladeshi worker with a knuckle duster, before ordering him to open the cash register.
"The victim complied out of fear but before the man managed to snatch the cash, he was confronted and arrested by two customers," he said.
ACP Shahurinain added that a police MPV arrived on the scene 15 minutes later and arrested the man. The suspect then led the police to the location of his two other accomplices who were waiting in a car.
"The car was parked about 50m from the convenience store. Investigations revealed that the female, aged 19, and a male, aged 22, were waiting for the suspect.
"All the suspects were arrested and remanded under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code," he said.
The first suspect also confessed to being involved in a robbery case at a convenience store on Jalan Harimau, Taman Century, here.
"The incident occurred at about 6.30am on Wednesday (Jan 9), where he used a knife to threaten a 25-year-old Bangladeshi worker.
"There, the suspect managed to get away with RM400 in cash," ACP Shahurinain said.
The case is being investigated under Section 392 of the Penal Code for robbery and Section 397 of the Penal Code for gang robbery.
