PETALING JAYA: Malaysia remains committed to its stance that aircraft landing at Singapore's Seletar Airport cannot use Malaysian airspace over Pasir Gudang, Johor.
Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah (pic) said his ministry will reiterate the matter to his Singaporean counterpart Dr Vivian Balakrishnan in a meeting on Tuesday (Jan 8).
“We are consistent in our stand and we will repeat our suggestion that aircraft landing in Seletar cannot use Malaysian airspace," Saifuddin was quoted saying by Berita Harian.
“Hopefully, our meeting on Jan 8 will arrive at an agreement over this issue that needs to be resolved,” he said.
The Malay daily reported that a number of aircraft was seen hovering over Malaysian airspace before landing at the Seletar Airport following the implementation of the Instrument Landing System (ILS).
Last month, Malaysia wanted Singapore to withdraw its plan to implement ILS or change the flight route to Seletar Airport.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke had reportedly said the flight route would affect development in Pasir Gudang because it would limit the height of infrastructure in the area.
Used for freight and private aircraft, Seletar Airport is located just off the Straits of Johor overlooking Johor Port.
