JASIN: It was a day to remember for SK Serkam Darat when it welcomed not one, not two, but four sets of Year One twins at the start of the new schooling year.
To mark the special occasion, the school invited traditional musicians dressed as hulubalang (Malay warriors) to welcome the eight pupils and their other Year One peers.
SK Serkam Darat headmaster Abu Hassan Ahmad said the twins – Muhammad Danial and Muhammad Danish Azlan, Nurain Amirah and Nurain Athirah Abdul Malek, Muhammad Nur Airie and Muhammad Nur Airil Ahmad Redzuan, and Mior Razieq Harith and Mior Rafieq Hazieq Mohd Rosdy – were among the 97 Year One students who enrolled.
He said Muhammad Danial, Muhammad Danish, Nurain Amirah and Nurain Athirah were placed in Kelas 1 UTM; Muhammad Nur Airie and Muhammad Nur Airil in Kelas 1 UKM; while Mior Razieq Harith and Mior Rafieq Hazieq in Kelas 1 USM.
"We decided not to separate the twins because we did not want them to lose focus during class," Abu Hassan told reporters.
Also present at SK Serkam Darat was Jasin district education officer Dr Mohd Azam Ahmad.
According to Abu Hassan, his school had previously only received one or two pairs of twins.
He said the school decided to invite traditional musicians from the Persatuan Seni Silat Gerak Tepat Umbai to enliven the first day of school this year.
"We hope this will be a memorable occasion for the students, parents and teachers of SK Serkam Darat," he said.
Meanwhile, Nurain Amirah, who aspires to be a doctor, said she woke up at 5am to get ready for her first day at school.
"I am happy because I can meet my friends here," said the shy seven-year-old, who previously attended her pre-school here.
