Girl scalded with hot water for stealing RM10

GEORGE TOWN: For stealing RM10 from her mum, an eight-year-old girl is now warded at the Penang Hospital after she was splashed with hot water by her father.

The Year Two girl is suffering from 3% mid-dermal burns with her forearms, right rib cage and parts of her body scalded. She is in stable condition.

Police are now looking for her parents who have gone missing after the Thursday incident at a flat in Ayer Itam.

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Che Zaimani Che Awang said investigation showed that the father, 41, got angry after he found out that the girl had stolen RM10 from her mother.

“He then splashed hot water on her. We tried to locate him at the house and his workplace in Bayan Baru but he was nowhere to be seen,” he said.

ACP Che Zaimani said a neighbour, who overheard the commotion, alerted a friend who lives in the same neighbourhood. The neighbour’s friend then found the injured girl.

She was brought to the Ayer Itam police station before being sent for treatment.

ACP Che Zaimani said the victim was the second among four siblings. Investigation also revealed that the four were often seen loitering around in the neighbourhood without adult supervision.
