Dr Wee: Why U-turn on RON95 price?

PETALING JAYA: MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong has slammed the government over the U-turn in its decision to sell RON95 fuel at a cheaper price.

"On Dec 24, Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng had announced that RON95 would be sold at a cheaper price, beginning tomorrow (Jan 1).

"However, in less than 24 hours before Jan 1, Lim had announced that the reduction of the price has been delayed," he said.

Wee questioned if this is the Pakatan Harapan government's gift to the people for the New Year.

He also asked if the government had been “quietly taxing” RON95 in the past.

"The global oil prices have gone down in the past two months. While the public have been paying RM2.20 per litre, many felt that RON95 would have cost about RM1.90 per litre or less," he said, claiming that the government would have collected taxes worth RM100 million each week.

Wee, in a statement, calls on the government to explain this to the people.

"In the past ten years, the then Barisan Nasional-led Federal Government did not tax RON95," he added.
