MMEA rescues six fishermen stranded in Tanjung Sedili waters after boat's engine fails

KOTA TINGGI:  Six local fishermen were rescued after their fishing boat suffered an engine failure in Tanjung Sedili waters here.

Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Tanjung Sedili maritime zone director Captain Maritime Mohd Zulfadli Nayan said that the agency received a distress call at around 12.15pm on Saturday (Dec 29).

“We received a call from the Sedili Fishermen Association about a local fishing boat that had sustained leakage and almost capsized at an unidentified location in Sedili Kecil waters.

“MMEA immediately deployed our patrol boat to find the troubled fishing vessel but had difficulty locating it as there was not much information to go on,” he said in a statement here on Sunday (Dec 30).

Mohd Zulfadli added that thanks to assistance from local fishermen near the scene, MMEA able to find the vessel.

He said the agency successfully rescued the six crewmen and the boat at 4.8 nautical miles east of Tanjung Sedili Kecil waters at around 1pm.

Mohd Zulfadli said that the boat was ferrying six fishermen ages 22 to 68 years old.

“The boat only had some engine problems and did not have any leaks. It has been towed to the agency’s jetty for further action," he said.
