MIRI: The Sarawak Meteorological Department has issued a warning of possible heavy rain and strong winds hitting the state until Jan 5.

The department also urges caution against floods in its latest notice to all government departments and agencies involved in disaster relief in the state.

The notice said that a change of wind direction in the South China Sea might see the coastal shores receive downpour brought by strong winds.

The interior areas may also be affected when the clouds move inland.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department and the Civil Defence Force are among those that had prepared manpower and equipment to face the situation.

The past week saw flash floods and land erosion in various districts with heavy rains during the night and pre-dawn hours.
