Vet Department: M'sia does not import pork blood protein flour

PETALING JAYA: The Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) has clarified that Malaysia does not import pork blood protein flour from China that is used to process animal feed.

DVS director-general Datuk Dr Quaza Nizamuddin Hassan Nizam said this in response to a report by the Asian Age which claimed that authorities in China had found African Swine Fever (AFS) virus in protein powder processed from pork's blood to produce animal feed in Huizhou, Guangdong.

"DVS issued a directive on the importing on live pigs and frozen pork products from Sept 18 due to the occurrence of AFS in China," he said in a statement on Thursday (Dec 27).
