PH leaders' spats could be disastrous, says Bersatu strategist

PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan (PH) leaders should not fight among themselves as it is childish and could lead to disaster, says Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) strategist Rais Hussin Mohamed Ariff.

In a series of tweets on Saturday (Dec 22), Rais warned that the "friendly fire" amongst PH politicians could be "disastrous".

"I am not concerned with politics, I am more concerned with politicians. Of course, we can differ in views, it must be celebrated, but pointing and launching missiles at each other is audaciously puerile," he said.

There has been no shortage of spats between Pakatan leaders of late, with the latest being from Khairuddin Abu Hassan, a stalwart of Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who claimed that there was a plot to undermine the prime minister.

He was responding to Kedah PKR chief Johari Abdul, who claimed that Dr Mahathir did not appear to know what to do after having achieved his objective of unseating former premier Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak.

Meanwhile, Penang Deputy Chief Minister II P Ramasamy and Bersatu Youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman have also been involved in a slagging match.

Ramasamy, who is from DAP, criticised the Youth and Sports Minister for being party to his wing’s call de facto national unity Minister P Waythamoorthy to resign over the Sri Mahamariamman temple fracas.

Syed Saddiq, however, refused to apologise for his action, stating that he was ready to face any action if his call for the minister’s resignation was considered wrong.

He added that he did not enter politics just to “play safe” or be a “yes man” or just to keep silent or turn a deaf ear to the public’s voice.

Rais called on PH politicians to enter an "ego-free zone". He said they had tofocus on what the people needed instead of indulging in "self or group posturing".

"Yes, ego-free zone! Show strength and vigour in addressing the real problems faced by the people, not accentuating self for self!" he said.
