GEORGE TOWN: Permatang Pauh PKR deputy chief Dr Afif Bahardin has reiterated the call that Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department P. Waytha Moorthy should quit his post over the Selangor temple debacle.
He said it was not personal as he had nothing against Waytha but as a minister, his responsibility was to maintain harmony, peace and order in the country.
“I am not at all saying what happened to the temple was right. And action should be taken against those involved, but if the minister himself made a statement wronging the police, it would instigate the people rather than reduce the tension.
“This would definitely contribute to untoward incidents happening, like what happened to fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim.
“Adib was attacked on the second day of the riot, not the first day,” he said.
Adib, 24, died on Monday after being severely injured during a rioting at the temple in USJ 25, Subang Jaya, last month.
Dr Afif said Waytha, as the minister in charge of national unity and social wellbeing, must be mindful that he was no longer in the Opposition.
