IGP warns against stirring up racial sensitivities after fireman's death

PETALING JAYA: Don't resort to actions that will stir racial and religious sensitivities, says Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun.

The Inspector-General of Police reminded the public that touching on racial and religious issues following the death of fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim, as well as the recent ruckus at the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in USJ 25, Seafield, will only disrupt public order.

“The police would like to advise the public not to take matters into their own hands in any way that can cause unrest, especially racial and religious tension,” Fuzi said.

"The Royal Malaysia Police will take necessary security measures to ensure the safety of all.

"We will do all we can to maintain public order," he added in a statement on Tuesday (Dec 18).

The IGP, on behalf of the police, also expressed his deepest condolences to Muhammad Adib's family and loved ones.

"He sacrificed his life to preserve the safety and security of the public.

"His death is a huge loss, and he will be forever regarded as the nation's hero," he said.

Muhammad Adib, who had been critically injured a month ago during a riot at the Seafield temple on  Nov 27, died on Monday (Dec 17) night at the National Heart Institute.

Meanwhile, as a precaution against trouble, 392 police personnel have moved in to secure the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman Temple and One City business complex in USJ 25.

The 392 include regular uniformed police, plainclothes policemen and Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) detachments.

According to police personnel at the temple, three checkpoints had been set up on the roads turning into USJ 25, although one was deactivated temporarily to ensure smooth traffic flow.
