PETALING JAYA: Police have ruled out foul play in the fire that razed the second floor of a house belonging to a staff member of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on Monday (Dec 17).
Selangor CID chief Senior Asst Comm Fadzil Ahmat said the Fire and Rescue Department did not find any elements of foul play.
"The case is now being investigated as a fire report,” he said in a text message.
Earlier, sources confirmed that the house belonged to an MACC employee but denied reports that the person in question was a high-ranking officer.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant operations director Norizham Mohd Nudin said that the exact cause of the fire was still under investigation.
The house along Taman Suria Tropika near Seri Kembangan caught fire on Monday afternoon. The second floor of the house was 80% burnt, according to the department.
No victims were injured during the fire.
An online portal, quoting sources, reported that the fire had elements of foul play, allegedly from a molotov cocktail that was thrown at the house. That has now been disproven.
