PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong has chided Pakatan Harapan ministers for giving contradicting statements on the third national car project.

The MCA president said the ministers should be more serious in their work.

“On Sunday, Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad proudly said that an individual from Qatar had expressed interest to invest up to RM1.6 trillion in the third national car project.

“But the next day, Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof denied Khalid’s statement.

“Come on Pakatan ministers, be more serious,” Dr Wee, who is Ayer Hitam MP, said in a Facebook post on Monday (Dec 17).

On Sunday (Dec 16), Khalid reportedly announced that Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had met Sheikh Qatari from Qatar who wanted to invest US$400bil (RM1.6 trillion) worldwide, including in Malaysia.

However, on Monday, Mohd Redzuan contradicted Khalid’s statement, saying that the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) had said it was interested to invest in the country, but there was no specific mention of the project.

“I don’t know from where he (Khalid) gets his source, but I think what he meant was that QIA has plenty of funds to invest in our country,” Mohd Redzuan said during a function in Cyberjaya.

The third national car project was mooted by Dr Mahathir after Pakatan came into power.

The Cabinet has laid down a condition that the project cannot involve government funds.

Dr Mahathir has also reportedly said that individuals from the private sector have expressed interest to invest in the project.
