MIRI: PKR grassroots in Sarawak want re-elected state PKR chairman Baru Bian (pic) to be given a bigger role in the national PKR scene.
Long Laput PKR sub-branch leader Philip Jau said the convincing manner in which Baru won the party polls on Saturday (Dec 15) night showed he has done a good job.
Baru, who is Works Minister, defeated Miri PKR chief Michael Teo Yu Keng 22-7 in the race for the Sarawak PKR chairman post, of which he (Baru) is the incumbent since 2009.
Philip, who is a native rights activist, said that the results on Saturday night was because Baru commands strong support from Sarawak PKR grassroots.
"Baru Bian won based on merit. He has worked very hard for Sarawak PKR.
"He should be given a bigger role in the national PKR set up.
"I hope PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will give Baru Bian a senior post at the central leadership," he said on Sunday (Dec 16).
PKR has 31 branches in Sarawak but for this party polls, 29 of them voted.
The other two branches had their branch polls postponed due to technical issues.
State PKR supreme council member Abun Sui said Baru is still the majority's choice to lead Sarawak PKR.
"The results showed that he still commands the support from most branches to continue leading Sarawak PKR," he said.
Abun, a lawyer and native rights activist, is the Hulu Rajang PKR branch chief.
