PETALING JAYA: Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu has to be serious when it comes to the Malaysia-Singapore spat over the maritime boundary off Johor Port, says MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

He said people were starting to question Mohamad’s handling of the issue.

“Prove to the people that Abang Mat is not only capable of cooking and exposing the weaknesses of troops but also capable of diplomacy,” he said, using another one of Mohamad’s nicknames.

Dr Wee said press statements by the Prime Minister, Transport Ministry and Foreign Ministry should assure the rakyat that diplomatic ties between the two countries were harmonious.

“This issue should be taken seriously by all parties, especially since it involves the question of state sovereignty especially in Johor,” added Dr Wee who is the Ayer Hitam MP.

The maritime boundary spat started after Malaysia’s announcement of extensions of the limits of the port of Johor Baru back in October. Singapore protested, claiming the decision was made unilaterally.
