IPOH: A village worker was shot on his right arm after being mistaken for a wild boar by his friend at a durian farm in Perak.

The 60-year-old victim was clearing undergrowth at about 10.30am on Thursday (Dec 13) when he was shot by his friend with a shotgun.

Perak Tengah OCPD Supt Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said the victim and another villager were hired by the 80-year-old shooter to clear some undergrowth at his farm.

The incident happened at Kampung Sedengka Ayer Mati, in Padang Changkat, Bota Kanan, about 50km from Ipoh.

"As the farm owner was clearing another side of the farm, he saw movement near some banana trees and thought it was a wild boar," Supt Mohamad Zainal said in a statement.

"He shouted twice to scare away the 'animal' before firing in that direction

"He then heard someone shouting for help and rushed over to find his friend clutching his bleeding arm," Supt Mohamad Zainal said.

The OCPD added that the victim and farm owner had known each other for many years.

He said the victim was rushed to the Changkat Melintang Hospital by his friend for treatment.

As the injuries were quite bad, he had to be sent to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital for further treatment.

Supt Mohamad Zainal said the incident would be investigated under Section 37 of the Firearms Act (causing injury with a firearm without lawful excuse).

He said the farm owner has had his statement recorded and released on police bail.

"We've also seized the shotgun, 45 bullets and his firearms licence," he added.
