Bintulu hit by flash floods

MIRI: Parts of Bintulu district in northern Sarawak were hit by flash floods on Monday (Dec 10) morning.

The downpour that began in the early hours of the morning led to several roads in and out of Bintulu being flooded by 8am, including Jalan Sebiew here.

In a statement, the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department said that it is now on the alert for floods in villages along the river tributaries following a warning from the Drainage and Irrigation Department.

It added that Department personnel in Kapit had found erosion on a hill slope near the village of Simpang Pelanjau, and said that remedial work is underway to stabilize the slope and prop up houses.
