PORT DICKSON: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim wants constituents in this resort town to propose ideas on ways to keep its famous beaches cleaner.
The Port Dickson MP will take the opportunity to go for a morning jog along the beach whenever he visits his constituency, and he would also make it a point to pick up rubbish along the way to ensure the stretches are clean.
"I am in the midst of formulating strategies to ensure the level of cleanliness along the beaches in PD can be further improved.
"I welcome proposals from you if you have any," he posted in his Instagram account after a routine jog and beach clean-up exercise.
Anwar said he started the gotong-royong exercise to clean the beaches when he was nominated for the Port Dickson by-election, held on Oct 13.
Instagrammers were quick to respond to his call for suggestions.
Within 20 minutes, his post had received 1,400 likes.
One liz@abbas said Anwar should not only focus on toilets, but should also look at ways to keep the toilets in the resort town clean.
"Not only PD beaches please. We need more clean toilets. Tq our future PM," she said.
Fellow Instagrammer Wayneeddriss proposed that more rubbish bins need to be placed along the beaches.
Local councils, he said, should also be made to clean the beaches more regularly.
Halimhamzahmikee suggested that increasing fines and more effective enforcement against litterbugs would be effective in keeping the resort town clean.
"Enforcement needs to be more effective, fines increased...Japan and Singapore are good examples.
"We need to create awareness to keep the beaches clean and this can only be done through more effective enforcement," he added.
