KUALA LUMPUR: Eight Pakatan Harapan lawmakers and five from the Opposition have been chosen to represent the Dewan Rakyat in the Inter-Parliament Union (IPU) and the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA).
The five Opposition MPs include two from Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).
Speaker Datuk Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof announced that five Pakatan lawmakers were chosen as members for the CPA.
They are Nurul Izzah Anwar (PH-Permatang Pauh), Anthony Loke (PH-Seremban), Datuk Mahfuz Omar (PH-Pokok Sena), Su Keong Siong (PH-Kampar) and Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh (PH-Ledang).
The Opposition MP's selected for the CPA are Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz (BN-Padang Rengas) and Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri (GPS-Batang Sadong).
The London based CPA was set up in 1911 and has 175 members.
Mohamad Ariff also announced three Pakatan MPs for the IPU.
They are Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin (PH-Hang Tuah Jaya), Alice Lau (PH-Lanang) and Datuk Wira Dr Farid Md Rafik (PH-Tanjung Piai).
The Opposition lawmakers chosen for the IPU are Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang (GPS-Kanowit), Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee (BN-Beluran) and Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan (PAS-Kota Bahru).
The Geneva-based IPU was formed in 1889 and comprises 178 members to promote democracy, equality, human rights, development and peace.
