KUALA LUMPUR: MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong (pic) says that the party needs to focus on reforming itself so it can stay in touch with the people.
"We should focus on how to reform our party and make ourselves relevant to the rakyat.
"The focus for us in the next general election is to win more seats. Only that we will have a bigger say or influence," said Dr Wee.
He added that MCA has to be realistic and realise that the Barisan Nasional coalition will not be able to form a ruling government again anytime soon.
"There are some who say if Barisan Nasional uses another strategy and cooperates with certain parties, it could be able to form the government.
"But let's face the reality – I do not foresee we could be the ruling government again in the near future," he told reporters at a press conference after the first meeting for the new party central committee at Wisma MCA here on Friday (Nov 16).
Also announced were the appointment of several positions in the MCA central committee, bureaus and state liaison committees.
"You can see the new line-up – fresh and young faces holding positions in sub-committees, bureaus and state liaison committees. I have told veteran leaders that it is time to pave ways for youngsters," he said.
He added that there are now more young leaders helming sub-committees and bureaus.
