KUALA LUMPUR: The government needs to study the root cause of drug-related crimes before it decides to abolish the death penalty, says Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

The Deputy Prime Minister said she met with Minister with the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Liew Vui Keong to discuss laws and provisions relating to mandatory death sentence involving drug abuse and whether it had served as a deterrent to such crimes.
