JOHOR BARU: The Government hopes to create one million new jobs within the next five years, says Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Yusof (pic).
He said the one million jobs would be created with the setting up of 50,000 new small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
"We are confident of achieving the target," Mohd Redzuan told reporters during the launch of the One Stop Centre for Entrepreneurs at Angsana Mall Johor Baru here on Tuesday (Nov 13).
He said the SMEs were important, contributing about 8% to the country's gross development product (GDP).
Mohd Redzuan said Malaysia has the right and conducive ecosystem for the SMEs to prosper and progress as long as they were willing to compete.
"The way forward for them is to be bold and creative and think out of the box," he said, adding that SMEs should avoid having a herd mentality.
Mohd Redzuan said, for instance, if there were too many entrepreneurs selling the same products, then new start-ups should look at offering other products or services.
"The problem with our small-time entrepreneurs is they like to sell what others are already selling," he said, giving the example of nasi lemak sellers congregating in one area.
