PETALING JAYA: Petronas is back with its heart-warming web film in conjunction with the Festival of Lights.
The four-minute video titled Monochrome centres around the expectations of a father towards his son as they experience a generation gap between pursuing a traditional career and one which is artsy.
The entire web film in Tamil begins with Kumar, the father, asking his son Naresh when he would return to India to complete his medical degree.
This led to a quarrel, which resulted in the son leaving the house.
Kumar chases after him and stumbles upon a gallery opening of Naresh’s photography works. As Kumar walks around the gallery looking for Naresh, he chances upon a portrait of his wife taken by Naresh.
They reconcile as both father and son admire the photo while Naresh assures his father that he will complete his degree.
In an interview with Astro Awani, Petronas Group Strategic Communications senior general manager Zahariah Abdul Rahman said Monochrome was a story that explores the dynamics of Kumar and Naresh, whose generation gap and differences in expectations keep the father and son apart from having the ideal parent-child relationship.
“In the spirit of Deepavali, we would like to invite all Malaysians to open their hearts and embrace differences as a step towards bridging the gap between one another,” she said.
Meanwhile, on Petronas’ Facebook page, Tang Shi Chee said the festive video was “awesome”.
“Love the ads from Petronas as they are always able to convey the essence of every Malaysian background. Great performance by the actors as well. Thumbs up,” she said.
Ashtha Lecumi Saminathan said Petronas has once again created another meaningful video.
“Only Petronas can come up with this type of statement, which makes us prepare tissue. Well done and Happy Deepavali to all,” she said.
Azizah Abd Rahman Azmi said she was very touched, adding that the oil and gas company has always produced “great videos”.
