Thousands queue to settle traffic summonses

KUALA LUMPUR: More than a thousand people thronged at the city Traffic Police headquarters at Jalan Tun H.S Lee here to settle their summonses following a 50% discount offer.

Offenders formed a queue as early as 7.30am although the counters were only opened at 8.30am.

The discount, which started yesterday and ends tomorrow, is in conjunction with the Deepavali celebration.

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investiga-tion and Enforcement department (JSPT) chief Asst Comm Zulkefly Yahya said some 4,000 summonses were settled yesterday.

“We opened three counters for the people to check and pay their summonses.

“It is one of our ways to encourage the people to settle their summonses before they are blacklisted,” he said.

Bukit Aman new JSPT chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Azisman Alias hoped the public would take advantage of the offer.

He said a similar promotion would also be held in other states.
