PETALING JAYA: Former Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak (pic, left) has hit out at critics who he claims base their opinions on news reports which are "inaccurate and naughty" (tidak tepat dan nakal).

The former prime minister chided Barisan Nasional secretary-general Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz (pic, centre) and former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamalluddin (pic, right), who both said that Barisan Nasional's defeat at the last elections was due to the 1MDB controversy, rather than any of Pakatan's so-called "lies" as previously claimed by Najib.

Najib said the duo were not present at the meet-and-greet session with Najib's Facebook friends in Putra World Trade Centre on Saturday evening (Nov 3).

"If they were present or were watching the FB Live video, they would have known what I meant with false propaganda and lies made about 1MDB. I did not say 1MDB was not the factor of BN's loss," he said in a Facebook post.

He added that if he believed that there was nothing wrong with 1MDB, he would not have instructed the Public Accounts Committee, which consisted of government and opposition MPs, to solve the matter or handle the issue with IPIC (International Petroleum Investment Co) to obtain the missing cash.

"I do not want to go into the blame game. But I believe every one of us are responsible for the defeat," said Najib.

"I took full responsibility and had relinquished all my positions and did not contest in any party position (nor was I) appointed for any posts," he said.

Najib noted that he is only interested in correcting and explaining the fabrication made by Pakatan Harapan after coming into power, and to produce facts and restore his name, as well as to criticise and provide his opinions if he sees issues relating to the rakyat and country's direction.

"Give me space to achieve these goals."
